How the guides are written and kept up to date

Every article on the TestMyPC guides is written and maintained by the same people who build the diagnostic tools. Guides are grounded in how the tools actually behave across Windows, macOS and the major browsers, and in the troubleshooting patterns we see through reader feedback.

We hold the guides to a simple standard: be specific, be honest about what a browser can and cannot detect, and always give the reader a way to verify things themselves rather than asking them to take our word for it. When something changes — a browser permission flow, an operating-system settings path — we update the affected articles and show the updated date on each post.

Some guides include short example scenarios. These are illustrative situations that show how a test result maps to a fix; they are not testimonials or case studies of named customers.

Benchmark ratings are calibrated against the results visitors submit to our public leaderboards, and are revised as more results come in. If you find an error in any guide, report it and we will correct it.

Limitations

Browser-based testing has real advantages, but it is worth being aware of what these tools cannot do:

• Not all key events are detectable in every browser — some system keys (e.g. volume, media buttons) may not register
• Internet speed results are estimates and may differ from dedicated speed testing services or native app results
• Camera and microphone access depends on browser permissions — if permission is denied, the tool cannot function
• Results may vary across different browsers, operating systems, and hardware configurations
• TestMyPC cannot diagnose internal hardware faults, driver problems, or OS-level issues

For detailed hardware diagnosis, professional repair tools or OS-level utilities will always be more thorough than browser-based checks.
