Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TestMyPC handles information when you use our browser-based diagnostic tools. We have written this in plain English so it is easy to understand.

Last updated: 28 April 2026

Who We Are

TestMyPC (testmypc.co.uk) is a browser-based device diagnostics website. We provide free tools that let you test your keyboard, webcam, microphone, speakers, trackpad, internet speed, and more — all directly in your web browser, without requiring any software installation.

If you have any questions about this policy, please use the contact details at the bottom of this page.

What Data We Collect

TestMyPC is designed to be a lightweight tool. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data for the purpose of running any of our tests. Specifically:

  • Keyboard, trackpad, and input tests — all key events and pointer events are processed locally in your browser. We do not record what you type.
  • Webcam and microphone tests — media streams are accessed only within your browser session and are not recorded, uploaded, or transmitted to our servers.
  • Sound tests — audio is played through your browser using the Web Audio API. No audio is recorded from your device during sound tests.
  • Internet speed test — the speed test downloads and uploads anonymous test payloads to estimate your connection speed. These payloads contain no personal data and are discarded immediately after use.
  • Timer — the timer runs entirely in your browser with no server interaction.

If you use our Report an Issue form, you may optionally provide your name and email address so we can follow up on your report. This information is used solely to respond to your submission.

Device and Browser Permissions

Some tools on TestMyPC require you to grant browser permissions to function correctly. These permissions are controlled by your browser and operating system — not by us.

  • Camera permission — required for the Webcam Tester to display a live camera preview.
  • Microphone permission — required for the Microphone Tester to display your input level.
  • Audio playback — required for the Sound Tester and in some browsers requires user interaction to begin.
  • Wake Lock / screen awake — optionally requested by the Timer tool to prevent your screen from sleeping, where your browser supports this feature.

You can revoke any of these permissions at any time through your browser settings. Revoking permissions does not affect your ability to use other tools on the site.

Permission requests happen in your browser and no device data is transmitted to our servers through these permission flows.

Cookies and Analytics

TestMyPC may use standard web analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, which tools are most visited and whether pages load correctly. Where analytics are used, they are intended to be aggregated and non-identifying.

If third-party analytics services are used (such as Google Analytics), those services may set cookies or collect data such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not sell or share any analytics data with third parties for advertising or tracking purposes.

You can manage or clear cookies at any time through your browser settings. Refusing cookies will not prevent you from using the diagnostic tools on this site.

Advertising

TestMyPC may display adverts on some pages, including through Google AdSense. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to show you relevant advertisements based on your browsing history.

For more information about how Google uses data when you visit sites that use Google services, please see Google's Privacy & Terms.

You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ad Settings or by visiting Your Online Choices.

Third-Party Services

TestMyPC may link to or rely on a small number of third-party services, including:

  • Google AdSense — for advertising (see above)
  • Browser APIs — camera, microphone, audio, network, and screen APIs provided by your browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party websites or services that we link to from TestMyPC. We recommend reading their privacy policies before sharing personal information with them.

Data Retention

TestMyPC does not retain personal data from diagnostic tests. Any optional information submitted via the Report an Issue form (such as your name or email address) is retained only as long as necessary to review and respond to your submission, and is not used for marketing purposes.

Server logs (such as access logs) may be retained temporarily for security and operational purposes. These are not linked to your identity unless required to investigate abuse or technical issues.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of TestMyPC after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
